Cytokeratin 5 antibody detects keratin 5, an intermediate filament protein encoded by the KRT5 gene. Keratin 5 is expressed in basal epithelial cells of stratified squamous epithelia, where it pairs with keratin 14 to form the cytoskeletal network. Because keratin 5 is a marker of basal cells and certain epithelial tumors, Cytokeratin 5 antibody is widely used in pathology, dermatology, and cancer biology.
Keratin 5 belongs to the type II cytokeratin family, characterized by coiled-coil domains that assemble into intermediate filaments. These structures provide mechanical stability, protect cells from stress, and support tissue integrity. Mutations in KRT5 are associated with epidermolysis bullosa simplex, a blistering disorder that illustrates the importance of keratin 5 in skin resilience. In pathology, cytokeratin 5 expression helps distinguish between tumor subtypes, particularly in lung and breast cancers.
The Cytokeratin 5 antibody clone KRT5/3594 delivers reliable detection of this structural protein. Clone KRT5/3594 has been employed in peer-reviewed studies that classify carcinomas, analyze skin biology, and map basal epithelial populations. Its specificity makes it suitable for immunohistochemistry and Western blotting in both basic research and diagnostic contexts.
Research using clone KRT5/3594 has clarified how cytokeratin 5 serves as a basal cell marker in squamous cell carcinomas and in basal-like breast cancer. In dermatology, this antibody supports investigation of epidermal differentiation and disease mechanisms such as blistering disorders. Beyond oncology and dermatology, cytokeratin 5 detection informs studies of epithelial biology, stem cell niches, and tissue regeneration.
NSJ Bioreagents provides this Cytokeratin 5 antibody to support oncology, dermatology, and epithelial biology. Alternate names include KRT5 antibody, keratin type II cytoskeletal 5 antibody, basal cell keratin antibody, epidermal structural protein antibody, and epithelial intermediate filament antibody.
Optimal dilution of the Cytokeratin 5 antibody should be determined by the researcher.
1. The prediluted format is supplied in a dropper bottle and is optimized for use in IHC. After epitope retrieval step (if required), drip mAb solution onto the tissue section and incubate at RT for 30 min.
A recombinant human Cytokeratin 5 protein fragment within amino acids 316-590 was used as the immunogen for the Cytokeratin 5 antibody.
Store the Cytokeratin 5 antibody at 2-8oC (with azide) or aliquot and store at -20oC or colder (without azide).
